Science

Science knowledge enhances our understanding of life and the universe and provides our students with the ability to apply factual knowledge in new situations.  This gives them the ability to solve everyday problems through:

• collecting information
• drawing logical conclusions
• application of core principles to problem-solving
• contributing to technological innovations

Our students often seek a definite “yes or no,” but real answers are usually in a “gray area” somewhere between. To explore that area and make informed decisions, our students need to develop skills in scientific inquiry, critical thinking and analysis. Employers want to hire workforce-ready individuals with these skills. Graduates possessing these skills who are self-disciplined, responsible, productive and collaborative are highly sought after. Our responsibility as educators is to prepare these future employees for life-long learning.

“Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.”
(Albert Szent-Gyorgyi)

“A problem is a goal that cannot be met with a memorized solution.”
(Susan Brookhart)
